What do I mean by research?
You will find my meaning for research is considerably broader than you will encounter in the world of orthodox academia.. Whereas I respect and participate in some academic research, my main interest is in the power of ideas. I believe that ideas are more than information and a crucial source of meaning and action.
The primary source of ideas is the origination of questions. With awakening our inquiring mind we will too easily assume what we are given culturally is what there is. Our worldview will be determined by the ‘official view’ of the society we belong to.
If we have questions then ideas originate in our experience through four main channels.
- IMAGINATION - we speculate about what might be and form hypotheses.
- INTUITION - we follow hunches and clues form experience and experiment to improve understanding and enrich meaning.
- IMPROVISATION - we play with ideas to bring them to life and see what they can give is.
INFORMATION - we track what we take to be the best known facts of a domain of interest but recognise that all facts are only such in the context of a worldview that itself will be inadequate.
